Hi, I’m Matt. I live and work in the North West of England. My journey to this point has been through the arts with a particular emphasis on the work of John Ruskin.
I’m a writer. I love forging connections between concepts, particularly between nature and the human experience. The numinous moment. The sense that our experience must contain, and must create, afterlives of various sorts.
I’m a researcher. I investigate history, and determine where our present day afterlives come from. I’m driven by a Ruskinian notion of purpose in art, and nature, and knowledge to innovative methods of practice in digital humanities. What do we see in our heritage spaces, and what do we overlook? What do we not even know is there, somewhere in the annals, that would benefit us immensely to experience? At the moment I’m enraptured by the potential hybridisation of new narrative media, photogrammetry and 3D printing for cultural outreach.
I’m a technology enthusiast, not an expert (yet). I have a growth mindset. I’m skilled in the technologies I’ve used, but I know that there’s always more to learn. Website building, for instance. I’ve been on somewhat of a project hiatus after completing my PhD, but in coming months I plan to rebuild these pages to showcase my research interests, ongoing process innovations, and academic output.
Once I’ve revived my dormant social media, Sketchfab, and Scan The World accounts I’ll also share the links with you. In the meantime, if you have any comments or suggestions, I’d be happy to hear them.
All best, as always.
Matt
